The Wachovia Center, previously known as the First Union Center,
was completed in 1996 and is the home of the NBA’s Philadelphia
76ers and the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers. The Wachovia Center
cost $206 million to build and was financed through private loans
and contributions. CoreStates originally paid $40 million for
29-year naming rights for the CoreStates Spectrum and the CoreStates
Center with $1.5 million being paid upfront and $2 million to
be paid annually in years 1-20. Wachovia merged with CoreStates
in November 1997 and the naming rights were purchased then to
give the building the new name of the Wachovia Center. The nearest
airport in Philadelphia is located only four miles from the Wachovia
Center and there is parking available for more than 6,000 cars.
The six players inducted into the 76ers hall of fame were all
unbelievable players in their day. The six men are Julius Erving
(#6), Maurice “Mo” Cheeks (#10), Wilt Chamberlain
(#13), Hal Greer (#15), Bobby Jones (#24), and Billy Cunningham
(#32). The Wachovia Center features 126 luxury suites and almost
2,000 club level seats for the fans with tickets ranging from
$105 for courtside seats all the way down to $12 for upper level
seats. The 76ers and Flyers are usually among the top teams in
their leagues and the fans of Philadelphia love to come out and
show their support and loyalty for their teams.
