The Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball
Association and the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey
League have played their home games in the United Center since
its completion in 1994. The United Center cost $175 million to
build and was financed privately thru bank loans and from the
owners themselves. The old Chicago Stadium hosted the Bulls from
1967 to 1994 and the Blackhawks all the way back to 1929 and saw
the first three of the Bulls championships from 1991-1993 while
the United Center was the home of the Bulls for the second three-peat
from 1996-1998. The United Center can hold nearly 5,000 more people
than the previous stadium and features all of the modern day amenities
that the old Chicago Stadium never had. The United Center has
parking access for 4,500 cars and the transition from the basketball
playing surface to the hockey surface is a smooth and painless
one that takes mere hours allowing the teams to play on the same
day if absolutely necessary.
