The Staples Center is located in the heart of Los Angeles and
is home to numerous professional sports teams including the Lakers
and Clippers of the NBA and the Kings of the NHL. It cost $330
million to build the Staples Center and only $58.5 million (less
than 18%) came from the public through taxes with the vast majority
of the payments coming from the teams themselves. Staples, Inc.
is also paying $100 million over a 20 year period for the naming
rights on the building. The Staples Center is located within 15
miles of the nearest airport and there are all kinds of wonderful
stores and centers around the Staples Center so that everyone
has something to keep them entertained. There are malls, shopping
centers, restaurants, and all types of places to visit in the
city. Inside the building, there are 160 luxury suites, 32 party
suites, and 2,500 club level seats available although the majority
of the seats for Lakers games are sold out to celebrity season
ticket buyers like Jack Nicholson and Denzel Washington. The Lakers
and Clippers both play their home games in the building so their
meeting throughout the year are not only about pride and standings
in the division but also about bragging rights in the Staples
Center itself.
