The fans at the Palace of Auburn Hills have
seen three championships won by their Detroit Pistons and another
by the Detroit Shock of the WNBA. The Pistons won their first
two championships in 1989 and 1990 with the third coming last
season over the Los Angeles Lakers. The Detroit Shock won their
first championship last season. The Palace of Auburn Hills was
completed in 1988 and although it’s not even 20 years old,
it ranks as one of the older buildings used by NBA franchises.
It cost $70 million to build and was privately financed through
team ownership. The Palace holds nearly 175 events thru basketball,
hockey, concerts, and other big events in the Detroit area. Detroit
has retired five numbers in the Palace’s hall of fame including
Isiah Thomas (#11), Vinnie Johnson (#40), and Bill Laimbeer (#44),
all of whom played for the championship teams of the late 1980s
and early 1990s. The Palace of Auburn Hills has 180 luxury suites
and over 1,000 club level seats to choose from and the prices
of tickets are cheaper than most others around the league. There
are twelve separate entrances where fans can enter the building
and they’re located at various points around the stadium
reducing time spent waiting to enter. The Palace of Auburn Hills
is one of the older stadiums in the league but it is still one
of the best to play in or to watch a game of your choice.
